A guarantee of year-round accommodation, tailored pastoral support and admissions which take into account applicants’ experiences are among the steps that universities and colleges could put in place to help improve support for students who have been in care, the Office for Students (OfS) has said today.

The condition will give the @OfficeStudents the powers to direct universities and colleges to take certain actions – for example to arrange student transfers, provide information advice and guidance to students, or provide refunds – when a provider faces potential closure.

Major changes in the National Student Survey (#NSS) will be introduced over the next two years following the first phase of a review of the survey conducted by the Office for Students (@OfficeStudents).

Many students were delighted to return to school last week. After such a difficult year – often with extremely disrupted learning – getting back in the classroom with their friends and teachers was a welcome boost. Those in their final year in college or sixth form will now be thinking about their next steps. 

Universities and colleges must keep the promises they make to students during this year’s admissions cycle and not end up ‘sacrificing quality for inflated intakes’, the chief executive of the Office for Students (@OfficeStudents) has warned today (17 Mar).
