‘Outstanding artwork’ produced by final year A Level Art & Design students was showcased at a public exhibition on Thursday, 23 March.
Current students, applicants, parents and the general public were invited to the Leaver’s Exhibition to enjoy the variety of artwork on display, all created by Havant & South Downs College (HSDC) students.
As well as allowing the public to view the pieces created, the evening also gave future students the opportunity to see the types of work they could be producing in the future.
Speaking about her work, Sobizha Nishiyama, who studies Fine Art, Textiles and Media, said: “The piece I created for the exhibition was my final project for Fine Art – it took me ten hours in total to create.
“The story behind my piece of art is my journey throughout western culture – I was born in the Philippines and my dad is Japanese and my mum is Filipino, and they moved from the Philippines to here.
“The piece shows all the experiences I have had within the western culture.”
Sobizha is planning on studying Art at university in September. Speaking about how Havant & South Downs College has prepared her for the next step, she said: “The exhibition has definitely given me an experience to help me with my future. I am really bad at my time management normally, so this has helped me with that. It’s been a really good experience for me.
“The lecturers here have been brilliant, they’re very relaxed and friendly but at the same time they are brilliant at motivating us and pushing us. It definitely helps us to prepare for whatever’s to come!”
Dan Beale, Vice Principal of Quality & Student Experience, said: "The Havant Campus of HSDC hosted the prestigious Leavers' Art Exhibition last night, which showcased our students' outstanding artwork.
"We welcomed many guests to the event, including Chief Executive of Havant Borough Council, Gill Kneller, as well as our College Governors, current students and future students soon to study with us.
"At HSDC we are very proud of our students. We aim to not only deliver an outstanding A Level provision but to also give our students a fantastic learning experience to develop them as people and give them the employability skills they need for the future."
Art & Design courses at HSDC gives students the opportunity to explore personal interests in art in more depth, developing and extending their study whilst considering new themes and approaches.
